Please note that Absentee Ballot Applications will NOT be mailed out automatically. You will need to contact the Township Clerk, and she will be happy to send you an Absentee Ballot Application and/or add you to the Permanent Ballot List. If you are on the Permanent Ballot list, you will receive your ballot automatically.

2026 Elections:

  • May 5, 2026 – Coopersville Area Schools Election — Registered voters within the Coopersville School District ONLY, may vote. There is NO Early Voting at this Election. COOPERSVILLE AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS – OPERATING MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSAL.  17.8308 MILLS FOR 3 YEARS.
  • August 4, 2026 – Michigan statewide primary election — Open to ALL registered voters to vote at their precinct location. This election will decide major party nominees for governor, the state Legislature, Congress and more. There IS Early IN-PERSON Voting available for this election.  Early voting will run from Saturday July 25, 2026, thru Sunday August 2, 2026. — Located at the Tallmadge Township Hall — O-1451 Leonard St N.W.  Grand Rapids, MI 49534 – FOR TALLMADGE RESIDENTS ONLY.
  • November 3, 2026 – Michigan statewide general election — Open to ALL registered voters to vote at their precinct location. This election will decide the state’s next governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state legislators, members of congress and more. There IS Early IN-PERSON Voting available for this election. Early voting will run from Saturday, October 24, 2026, thru Sunday, November 1, 2026. Located at the Tallmadge Township Hall — O-1451 Leonard St N.W.  Grand Rapids, MI 49534 – FOR TALLMADGE RESIDENTS ONLY.

 

Election Day – In-Person Voting.

We have 3 precincts in the township. Please see the voter district map to determine your voting location for state and federal election.

For smaller school or local election, each precinct is combined into 1 temporary voting location, at the Township Hall from 7:00am – 8:00pm @ O-1451 Leonard Street NW, Grand Rapids MI 49534.

EARLY VOTING — we plan to host early voting for TALLMADGE RESIDENTS ONLY for any state or federal elections held in 2026. All precincts will be combined and voting will be held at the Township Hall; located at O-1451 Leonard Street NW, Grand Rapids MI 49534.

Absentee Voting

All registered voters in Michigan can now vote using what’s called an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots are typically available to voters about a month prior to an election. You don’t need an excuse or a reason to vote absentee. Absentee ballots are sent to you via USPS mail or by in-person pickup. You can mail completed ballots back to the Tallmadge Township Clerk’s office or hand deliver completed ballots and place it in the drop box anytime or bring to the clerk’s office during office hours. Drop off or hand delivered is recommended if you are returning a ballot within two weeks of election day, in order to avoid possible postal delays, resulting in a non-counted ballot.

**NEW – absentee voters now have the option to take their completed absentee ballot to the polls during election hours and personally run their ballot thru the ballot tabulator. You will still need to check in and provide identification with the election workers at your voting location.

All voters have access to Absentee Voting. If you haven’t yet requested to be placed on our PERMANENT ABSENTEE BALLOT VOTER list, you will need to complete an AV Application each year to receive an absentee ballot. You can call, stop by the office, or go online to generate or request the application. If you have already completed an application requesting a ballot for all elections, you will receive your ballot by US Mail, at the address on your application. If you will be away, please remember that ballots and other election mail cannot by forwarded by the US Postal Service. Alternate mailing arrangements must be made through the Tallmadge Township Clerk’s Office. These requests will need to be made in writing to receive your ballot at another location other than your registered address.
Below are some commonly asked questions regarding the Absentee Voter process.

*How do I apply for an absentee ballot?

  • Online – Registered voters can request an absentee ballot online through the Michigan Secretary of State website before 5 p.m. the Friday before the election.
  • Call your city or township clerk and ask that an application be mailed to you
  • Download an application to return by mail or in-person to your local city or township clerk – Absent Voter Ballot Application Fillable
  • In-person at your local city or township clerk’s office

Note: Within two weeks of election day, to avoid possible postal delays, we recommend making your request in-person at your local city or township clerk office. You’ll be able to fill out and submit your ballot while at the office.

Absentee Voter (Vote by Mail) Forms:

*When is the deadline to apply for an absentee ballot?

Online and mail requests for an absent voter ballot must be received by your township or city clerk no later than 5 p.m. the Friday before the election. If you’re already registered at your current address, you can request an absent voter ballot in-person at your clerk’s office anytime up to 4 p.m. on the day prior to the election. If you’re registering to vote or updating your address by appearing at your clerk’s office on Election Day, you can request an absent voter ballot at the same time you register. If you request your AV ballot the day before the election or on Election Day, you must vote the ballot in the clerk’s office.
*How Do I Get Added to the Permanent Absentee Voter List?
In order to automatically receive an absentee ballot and to be placed on the permanent absentee voter list, a registered voter must make that selection on their Absent Voter application request.  You can do this by contacting the Tallmadge Clerk’s Office at (616) 677-1248 or by submitting the form online.

*Did my absentee ballot arrive?

All registered voters can track their ballot by looking up their information by visiting the voter information SOS website.

*I messed up my ballot, now what? 

Most likely you will need to be issued a new ballot. Please contact the Township Clerks office for instructions to “spoil” your ballot and be re-issued a new one.

Early Voting

The 9 days of early voting is required for State and National Elections only. Ottawa County has decided to NOT renew the early voting contract with the local townships and cities for 2026.  More information will be generated as we develop an early voting plan for 2026.

Hall Rental

The Community Room at the Township Hall is available for rent. The daily rental cost to our Township residents is $100.00. A $100.00 deposit and completion of the Rental Agreement is now required. The rental includes use of (8) double tables and approximately (90) chairs as well as use of a full kitchen (Stove, Oven, Fridge, Microwave). This is your township, and we try to keep the c)ost at a minimum. Please call for additional information.

Park Pavilion

The Park Pavilion is located in the park, near the larger playground area, basketball and pickle ball courts.  The pavilion is available for use on a first come first served basis.  There are 8 picnic tables, 2 permanently placed charcoal grills and 1 electrical outlet available for use while the park is open (typically April – October) from dawn til dusk. No alcohol is allowed in the park.  Unfortunately, we are unable to make reservations for the pavilion.
